Everyone at some point in life will face loss and encounter difficult emotions such as stress, anxiety, sadness, and fear. Whether you're dealing with life transitions, relationship issues, career changes, traumatic events, or personal loss, you may have tried various methods to cope with these challenges. When your usual coping strategies are ineffective, seeking experienced professional help can make a significant difference. It's important to remember that trust is essential for effective treatment.

With over 10 years of specialized training in Psychoanalysis and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy across China and the US, I hope to provide you with a trusting, respectful space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and questions as you work toward your goals. Psychotherapy is collaborative, requiring both the therapist and the patient to work together.

I provide psychotherapy in both English and Mandarin. The best way to reach me to schedule an appointment is to email me at xiaofengk100@gmail.com. You can also call me or leave a message at (917)475-6638.

One of the areas I am working with is trauma, no matter whether it is childhood sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or illness, disruptions, or disability of a family member, or a more recent incident that impacts your health, family, or work. The worst part of Trauma is that it continues. Often, people want to move on and forget about it. Paradoxically, the way to “forget about it” is to remember it and talk about it, although it is always a painful thing to do. Trauma often makes a person afraid of their weakness, so it would be very difficult for them to accept help or being silenced. Historical trauma might create a harsh society that shapes the culture that hurts the weaker ones. One generation might do unwanted things without realizing it, to their children, who are weaker and have no power. Separating the past and present is important to learn in our work on Trauma.  I understand the intergenerational trauma and how it would impact family members in each generation. I also understand Asian cultural and historical events and their effects.

Trauma

Living in a patriarchal society has given me insight into the struggles faced by women, especially after immigrating from one area in China to another and transitioning between different countries and cultural environments. My goal is to support women and young girls in their growth, success, and achievement of their goals. While we still have a long way to go in achieving gender equality, I am committed to contributing to the improvement of women’s lives in an unjust society.

Women’s Issue

Since my early practice in 2017, I have been working with therapists. I am very interested in continuing to support the Helping Professionals, including Nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Mental Health Counselors, and my fellow Social Workers. Sometimes, it is even harder for helping professionals to seek help. Often in Helping Professions, you might tend to take on more than people normally can handle, but still do not feel that you have done well enough. You might forget that therapists or helpers need help sometimes, too. You might have been doing low-pay and no-pay work for a long time in a hospital or agency setting and feel stuck. It brings me great satisfaction to work with Helping Professionals.

Helping Professionals

The other areas I am interested in working with are life transitions, anxiety, depression, and bipolar. I am interested in working with teenagers and their families, young adults, and adults.

Supervision for Mental health Providers

I am interested in supporting new therapists who hold LMSW and LMHC for supervision or analysis/therapy. In an early career as a psychotherapist, the most important things you will learn to help your clients are from your own analysis/therapy and supervision. I hope I can be of help to you in this interesting yet difficult career. Please reach out for more information.
